How Paradigms Control Our Self Image

Have you ever tried to make a life change only to be frustrated by a lack of progress?  Have you found it difficult to sustain a change even if you are persistent and motivated?  It’s possible that a paradigm may be at the root.

What’s a paradigm?

A paradigm is a set of habits that we have embedded in our subconscious mind to the point that we behave habitually without even thinking. We can think anything we want but we rarely take control of our thinking. We have been conditioned from birth to accept as true what we hear from others or see happening around us. We grow up with a set of limitations that are self- imposed but more than likely were originated by what we have been told, what we have seen happen to others or what we ourselves have experienced.Continue reading

About Our Men

We are making a deliberate point of raising our daughter to be confident, self-sufficient and self-reliant. But it’s not enough to just teach girls to be empowered.  We need to raise our boys to EXPECT it.

Passive Role Modeling

When my twin boys were 3, they watched Disney’s Snow White for the first time.  To say it ranks almost at the top of my least favorite children’s movie is an understatement. I recoil at the message both subtle and spoken outright that a woman in a bad situation must dream that “some day her prince will come” to rescue her from a life of servitude and emotional abuse.  I’m disheartened by the portrayal of female figures as either jealous, vindictive and evil or meek, subservient and victims.Continue reading
